Course Description:
This two-day course examines the Safety Officer's role at emergency responses.
This course focuses on operations within an Incident Command System (ICS) as a Safety Officer and emphasizes response to all-hazard types of situations
Course Objectives:
Define the roles of the Incident Safety Officer (ISO).
Formulate a risk management matrix for various incidents and planned events.
Evaluate incident for unacceptable risks, and recommend remediation opportunities.
Summarize the Incident Safety Officer's responsibilities during post-incident operations.
Prerequisites:

Class Minimum : 15 studentsClass Maximum : 25 students
must have 15 registered by 1/5/2026 or class will be cancelled.
Selection Criteria:
Individuals who have a Safety Officer responsibility at emergency operation situations. Individuals attending this course should have a working knowledge of ICS as taught by the National Fire Academy, building construction principles, hazardous materials management, applicable National Fire Protection Association guidelines, and Federal regulations.

Notes:

Students should attend all sessions of the course and be prepared to interact in course activities. Credit for course completion will not be granted if more than 10 percent of the course is missed. You must notify POC Thomas Martinez at tmartinez@dps.state.nv.us if you expect to miss any course sessions.

If a student is unable to attend for which he/she is registered, it is the responsibility of the student to withdraw from the course on the training portal at least seven (7) days prior to the start of the course. Failure to timely withdraw from the course may result in the student being limited from registering for future classes. Withdrawals less than 7-days prior to the start of the course will be permitted for a documented emergency that is approved by the SFM Training Officer
